CHILDREN of our CHILDREN HOME
We interviewed a number of children, living in our children homes. We wanted to know where they came from, their wishes and of course, we should like to follow their career and prospective life. Their stories were very touching. For example a short story from Sayi.
Sayi is 10 years old and is in the 5th class of our school. His village is half an hour’s drive away.
His father is dead and his mother mentally not in order, so that his grandmother took care of him but could not manage this any more physically. She asked Joseph and Geetha to help and Sayi was admitted into our children home one year ago.
But nobody comes to visit him contrary to occasional visits by other parents or relatives to the children of the children home. J+G even offered to reimburse the travel costs to an uncle to come and see Sayi, but without avail. The uncle, also a poor Dalit, cannot risk to lose his job when he is away from the rice fields for a few hours. In fact his daily income is just enough to survive each day.
Sayi is a clever boy, who can learn very well and fortunately he has many friends in the children home.
